Intuitive design makes speaking inviting and easy
Because the prospect of speaking aloud can make language learners anxious, we built Babbel Speak with intentionally comforting UI design, like a calming breathing bubble radiating from the microphone button, which helps learners know when it’s their turn to speak. Other visual cues show learners when and how to speak (by pressing the microphone button) and when the AI is responding, so the conversation feels natural.
During each conversation, our AI language partner speaks in a kind tone. Their vocals accompany typed-out responses from both the AI and the speaker themselves. This blend of visual and auditory learning helps learners retain the information and better understand the individual words they’re saying (and hearing) in the moment.
To make learning even easier, we also built in buttons that allow the learner to hear each message (including their own) repeated back as much as they’d like, or slowed down for better comprehension on demand. Learners who might be struggling to come up with an adequate response in the secondary language can press a “hint” button to get an appropriate example response, which they can then say aloud to progress the conversation, or which can help jog their memory if they’re having trouble remembering exactly what to say. Additionally, learners can click a button on each message for a translation in their native language, making it easier for them to understand the entire conversation in real time.
